Experian, the UK's leading credit reference agency, is now offering a free trial of its CreditExpert monitoring service to enable you to check that your credit history is accurate and up to date, and to monitor credit searches carried out against your name.

Your credit history is important because it forms part of the information lenders use to decide whether to extend credit and on what terms. When you become a member of CreditExpert; we will give you a free trial that enables you to see your credit report and credit history. By regularly checking your credit report, you will develop a better understanding of how lenders make decisions and make sure the information is correct.

Credit specialists

As a member of CreditExpert, you will have online access to our credit specialists who will be able to advise you if you have any concerns about information on your report. You will receive alerts that tell you whenever your credit history is searched and when information on your credit report significantly changes. With this service, CreditExpert also provides you with Identity Protection Insurance to protect you if you become a victim of fraud.

Never be tempted to turn to so-called credit repair companies who claim to be able to get rid of negative information from your report. You can do it yourself for free by contacting the credit reference agencies directly or with the help of a money adviser, such as Citizens Advice.

Many credit repair companies will fail to “repair” your credit report. In fact, some may make matters worse by encouraging you to break the law or offering a very high interest rate loan. This is likely to cause you further difficulties.
